School Children in South Africa
Many schools bear the scars of apartheid with children from disadvantaged communities. In one village in the Western Cape, the Amani Harmonic Foundation has formed partnerships with the school (with over 500 children) and community groups to undertake creative, uplifting and transformative activities with children. Music is a direct pathway, as can be seen in our short video, “Permission to Play”
The Foundation is collaborating with projects directed at youth with limited options once they complete primary school. Preparation for community-based festivals such as the ‘Herfsfees” (see image below) provide a focus for extra-mural activities.
